It was a wonderful to be invited to shoot Carolyn and Joseph’s very early spring time wedding at The Old Hall in Ely. The Old Hall is a beautiful wedding venue which is set in grounds which are so picturesque; with absolutely stunning gardens, lakes and lines of trees. I’m an Ely Wedding photographer, as live very close to many Ely Wedding venues. I often photograph weddings at The Old Hall, which for me, is only a few minutes travel down the road.
I’m a documentary wedding photographer, and I capture the story of the day in an unobtrusive manner. This wedding day began with bride and groom preparations. I love capturing the preparation part of the day, there is so much emotion and excitement to photograph. Carolyn had chosen to have 4 bridesmaids alongside her for the day, so it was a busy morning for hair and makeup. The guys were getting ready in a room down hall and it was fun to capture the banter between the groomsmen as they put on their cravats and button holes. It was lovely to photograph Carolyn with her father and bridesmaids walking across the hall and down the stairs to the ceremony room. This is often a sweet contemplative moment for everyone involved and lovely moment to photograph.
As it was March and a little bit cold outside, the ceremony was held indoors in the beautiful lounge with the magnificent fire place, tapestries and artwork. I loved photographing the ceremony, so many wonderful emotional moments throughout. I managed to capture a few lovely moments after the ceremony and for one of these photos, I won an international wedding photography award from Weddison. This award winning picture was captured when there was a sweet moment between bride and groom after they had been given their wedding certificate. I aim to create an authentic pictures of moments like this, to capture an accurate photo-journalistic story of the wedding day.
This was a lovely wedding day to capture, so much fun and laughter, especially during the speeches. The two best men made everyone laugh and it was fun capturing all the reactions from the wedding party and guests. The atmosphere was happy and lively. I captured the whole wedding story until after the first dance. I also make time to capture the details, as the decorations are an important part of the wedding story as they have particular meaning to the couple. A beautiful woodland theme had been chosen, which absolutely complimented the winter/spring season.
It’s always fun to capture a creative portrait photo at the end of the evening and I asked the bride and groom whether they would like a portrait using the architecture of the hall. These pictures make great finishing pieces to the wedding album. Thank you Carolyn and Joseph for allowing me to capture your wedding story!
