It was amazing to be able to capture Katherine and Nick’s wedding at Ely Cathedral and reception at The Old Hall in Ely. I’m based in Ely, so I’m in an ideal location to photograph at The Old Hall. I have lived in Ely for 10 years, so I know the area really well, plus have explored Ely Cathedral many times. I was so excited when Katherine and Nick asked me to be their Wedding Photographer. Ely Cathedral is stunning and The Old Hall is so picturesque with beautiful lakes, gardens and lines of trees. Katherine and Nick also had an engagement shoot which meant I was able to get to know them a bit better before the day. They are a lovely couple and I knew it was going to be a super day!

It was a beautiful sunny day when I arrived at the Old Hall to capture the bridal preparations. This is always a fun stage of the wedding day as there is so much excitement and anticipation. I’m mostly a documentary wedding photographer, and I prefer to let moments unfold in front of me without anything being staged or contrived. It’s fun capturing the connection between the bride and her bridesmaids. Plus it was a moving moment when the Mother of the bride helped her daughter put on her wedding dress. The bridesmaids were really excited when opening their wedding gifts and this was fun to capture. Among the gifts Katherine had given them, there were some comfy sandals for when they hit the dance floor later. As I drove off down the road to the ceremony, Ely Cathedral looked stunning on the horizon. Ely Cathedral is a wonderful place to get married, so grand and really beautiful. The ceremony was amazing to photograph, lots of gold on the alter and stunning stained glass windows. I was able to use the beautiful architecture for some really creative shots.

It was short drive back from Ely Cathedral to The Old Hall, in Stuntney, where the wedding reception too place. I had fun capturing the story of the day right up until after the first dance on the instantly recognisable parquet dance floor at The Old Hall. There was so much emotion to capture during the day the speeches were beautiful and I enjoyed capturing all the wonderful moments during the day. I felt very privileged to have captured their wedding story! Thank you Katherine and Nick!
